Think Your Thoughts Monday

Hi peeps. How was your weekend? Hope you had a fun filled weekend following the Valentine celebration. I also hope you received gifts well enough.

I want to ask a quick question. Drop your opinions at the comment section.

It goes like this; You were born into a polygamous family. And your mother is the second wife to your father. All relations between your father, mother, and your step mum are good.

Before you were born, your step mother has a daughter and her daughter had given birth to a boy. Obviously, you're meant to be his Uncle and him your nephew.

Remember he's 5 years older than you are. Who's meant to give an iota of respect?

Like they say, "respect is reciprocal".

Are you meant to respect because he's older than you are. Or he is meant to respect you because you're his Uncle irrespective of the age difference?

  1. Respect indeed is reciprocal; however, one does not have to be given respect in other to show respect; that would be selfishness & an absence of love. Really, we should give not for the sake of wanting/hoping to collect in return, & with the fulness of our heart. No matter how profitable an item or show of affection is, if it is void of love, then it is void indeed.

In respect to the afore-mentioned case, both sides are to show respect to each other; not for the sake of age or hierarchy, but love. However, the younger of the 2 is to acknowledge the older also with 'age respect' as follows our Nigerian culture.

  2. Lol.... I think that they should just live like siblings, love each other and respect each other, this case is in my family, my sister Janet is 6 years younger than her niece...weird....but they just live normally....like they are sisters but Janet calls her sister Ayo, it doesn't really matter, like Lincoln said the most important thing is love, if they love each other there won't be any respect issues....
